Whitney Houston dies at 48. The Grammy Award winning singer was found dead by her bodyguard, Ray, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the annual Clive Davis pre-Grammy party is being held tonight. Though Houston’s on-again/off-again boyfriend Ray-J was originally reported to have found her, his rep confirms that is not true.
At this point the cause of death is still unknown.
Beverly Hills police detectives just held a press conference and said they responded to a call from the hotel just before 4pm pacific time. There were no signs of criminal activity and they are currently investigating more details. They did not mention whether drugs or alcohol were involved. They also said they attempted to resuscitate her and were unsuccessful.
Whitney Houston had an enormously successful career selling over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide. Her most popular acting role was of course in the 1992 hit The Bodyguard.
Also, this week there had been speculation that Houston would be joining the X-Factor as a judge. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Whitney’s friends and family during this time.
